Knoxville Aging in Place (KAIP) is a program of HomeSource east tennessee that helps older homeowners remain safely and independently in the homes they love. Most homes were not built with aging in mind, and small changes can make a real difference: a grab bar in the bathroom, better lighting on a stairway, a ramp at the front door. KAIP helps identify what is needed and makes it happen, at a pace and budget that work for you.

In 2025, KAIP served 18 senior homeowners across Knoxville and Knox County with assessments, repairs, and modifications that support safe, independent living. The program continues to grow as part of HomeSource's long-term commitment to East Tennessee's aging population.

How KAIP Works

1. Home Safety Assessment. A trained assessor visits your home to identify potential safety concerns and recommend modifications, tailored to your needs and your home. There is no obligation to proceed with any repairs.
2. Repairs and Modifications. Based on the assessment, KAIP coordinates the improvements that make a home safer and more accessible. Common upgrades include grab bars, handrails, non-slip flooring, barrier-free and walk-in showers, ramps, stair lifts, wider doorways, and better lighting. You choose what to do now and what to phase in over time.
3. Connection to Resources. KAIP connects you with additional support as needed, including HomeSource's housing counseling and financial education programs. You are never navigating this alone.

• KAIP looks at the whole home: entry and exit, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, living spaces, and stairs.
• Ramp rentals are available for short-term needs.
• KAIP maintains a showroom at 320 Nancy Lynn Lane #9, Knoxville, TN 37919, where you can see aging-in-place products and modifications in person before making any decisions.
